This past week I took the CPR course at Hartshorne health center here at Colorado State University. Unfortunately, the instructor didn’t show up on the first day of class so we were unable to complete both CPR and First Aid training, but I was able to get certified in CPR for infants, children and adults. This training was about three and a half hours long. We met in a conference room in the basement of Hartshorne Health center. There were only three students total, which made it easy for us to learn quickly as well as easier on the instructor. We watched a lot of video as well as practicing on adult dummies as well as infants. I can honestly say that one of the hardest things for me was practicing helping an infant that had been choking. You have to hit the baby on their back in between their shoulder blades, which was just kind of hard for me to imagine doing to an actual infant. I really enjoyed learning how to do CPR correctly as well as the Heimlich. I think that many people can benefit from knowing these kinds of skills. The reason I took the class was because I am a nanny for twin girls that are four months old and their mother recommended I take it. But I think that it can help people get jobs as well as being just good knowledge to help in sticky situations. These classes are offered many times a week at many different locations. The Red Cross has a website that can better direct you to exactly what kind of class you need and want. www.redcross.org. Also, there are many different handouts that can be found at places like your local health center.

I realize that it has been awhile since I have posted anything new. Sadly, I have not nannied for about two weeks becuase the girls grandmother is in town. I have not even really interacted much with children since. I really find myself missing out on holding babies and having funny conversation with toddlers. I look forward to informing you more on my CPR class that is on Tuesday and Thursday (18th and 20th). Also, I will start working again on the 24th, so I hope to have some good stuff to tell you about! Until then, feel free to let me know what you have been learning or lately pondering!
